Robert Beauchamp was born in Denver, Colorado, in 1923. His highschool teacher, R. Idris Thomas, who facilitated his winning a scholarship to the Colorado Springs Arts Center, nurtured his childhood interest in art. There Beauchamp studied with Boardman Robinson. In later years, he was awarded a Pollock/Krasner Grant from the Walter Gutmann Foundation, the Boskoff Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, and the Guggenheim Foundation.
