B.A.T. (Bon a Tirer)
When the artist is satisfied with the graphic from the finished plate, he works with his printer to pull one perfect graphic and it is marked “Bon a Tirer,” meaning “good to pull.” The printer then compares each graphic in the edition with the BAT before submitting the graphic to the artist for approval and signature.

Beginning in the 1960s Peter Max has been rendering vibrant cosmic landscapes which have striking visual parallels to the themes that were being expressed by The Beatles; mind expansion, intergalactic journeys, fantastic timless landscapes, colorful portaraits of curious characters, and above all love for fellow man.

Certainly the subject of Max’s work often reflects his own social and spiritual interests alongside his aesthetic and formal concerns. Throughout the past two decades he became a champion of many causes ranging from environmentalism and the campaign for Tibet, to the restoration of the Statue of Liberty.
