1. a. The act or process of assimilating.
b. The state of being assimilated.
2. Physiology. The conversion of nutrients into living tissue; constructive metabolism.
3. Linguistics. The process by which a sound is modified so that it becomes similar or identical to an adjacent or nearby sound. For example, the prefix in- becomes im- in impossible by assimilation to the labial p of possible.
4. The process whereby a minority group gradually adopts the customs and attitudes of the prevailing culture.
As a woman artist, Pauline Aitken has explored the feminine inner vision, and also a unique view of science and its relationship to art. As a young artist, her work was recognized in 1968 at the British International Print Biennale. Continuing through the years winning awards, she has recently received the Arts Business and Employees’ and the Arts, Business and the Smaller Budget (2000 and 2001) in the UK
